Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a therapeutic approach to the treatment of psychological trauma. It is distinctive in its use of bi-lateral (alternate left & right sided) stimulation of the nervous system either through eye-movements, tapping on the body or music listened to on headphones. This anchors the recipient in the present while working through traumatic memories. These memories can then be naturally processed so that they are experienced as past history rather than recurring as flashbacks, nightmares & uncontrolled behaviours.

Trauma from the past can also cause the loss of a sense of self or conflicts within the self. These can make it difficult to cope with everyday life & leave people vulnerable to further trauma. Building a sense of resilience is a necessary first step before working directly on the content of the trauma. Coping resources are the initial focus & are developed according to individual need. Once it feels safe to do so, the traumatic material can be worked through at a pace that is right for the person concerned.

All treatments are £70.00 for a 60 minute session and are made by arrangement with David.
